Birmingham on Sea
July and September 2012
This walk was even more ambitious than the first with a large cast of characters including Thomas Telford, the ghost of James Brindley, an escaped prisoner, some very angry suffragettes and various canal workers.
A unique feature of this walk was that we were accompanied by the St Paul’s Trust narrowboat which provided a changing room for the cast, refreshments, and a lift for tired participants!
The walk covered five miles from Brindley Place in the centre of Birmingham to Galton Bridge in Smethwick, finishing at the Galton Valley Pumping Station at the time it was being taken over by the Home Guard.
Songs were again a major feature, led by Peter Churchill.
Reviews
A good time was had by all.
