This play was written in 2007 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade and it has particular reference to Birmingham. It follows events from 1789 through to 1909 with scenes in between from the present day.
The part played by men such as Wilberforce and Joseph Sturge in getting the slave trade abolished, and the part played by the Quaker women and how their treatment led on in part to the women’s rights movement, are all covered.

There were some haunting songs and thought provoking facts as, not least the reminder that although the slave trade was abolished 200 years ago, there are still estimated to be 27 million slaves in the world today, which is more than all those who were made slaves during the Atlantic slave trade. I thoroughly recommend it…
