This was a dramatic interpretation of the story of the Middlemore Homes, which emigrated over 5000 children, chiefly to Canada, between 1873 and 1954. We attempted to present conflicting opinions about the work of the Homes – illustrating the desperate conditions which led to parents sending their children abroad as well asT a glimpse of what happened to them in Canada.

Thanks to funding from the Commonwealth Games Creative Cities Fund we were able to mount performances at both the Midlands Arts Centre Hexagon Theatre as well as The Blue Orange Theatre. Audiences included various relatives of Middlemore children.

The play was written by members of the Company based on research by Val Hart. Peter Churchill took the role of Musical Director and wrote some amazing new songs for us. We were also pleased to welcome Henry Kingdon as guest Director for the production.
The play was filmed and is
available on YouTube.
